The AMD RX Vega 64 is a pretty powerful graphics card but its primary competition isn’t the Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti. If anyone wants a comparison, the GTX 1080 card would be the right choice to put against the RX Vega 64. But in a surprising result, the AMD RX Vega 64 was able to outperform GTX 1080 Ti and the difference between the two wasn’t small either.

ComputerBase.de got hold of the upcoming Forza 7 game and managed to run the graphics performance tests. The results from these tests were far from what was originally expected. The publication made use of a system that had an Intel Core i7-6850K clocked at 4.3GHz, 16GB of DDR4 RAM that was running at 3000MHz in quad-channel mode.

The tests were performed in three resolution settings – 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p. The graphics options were set at maximum level and 8 x MSAA was used for all the three resolutions. The drivers used for either of the graphics cards were Crimson ReLive 17.93 and 385.69 for AMD and Nvidia respectively. The drivers have been officially optimised for Forza 7 game.

That’s enough of details let’s now dive straight into the test results:

1080p

For the Forza 7 game running in 1080p, the two highest spots have been taken by the AMD cards. The RX Vega 64 sits on the top with 136.9 FPS and the Vega 56 got 122.7 FPS. Surprisingly, the GTX 1080 Ti had to settle for 111.2 FPS. The Vega 64 rendered 23% more frames than the GTX 1080 Ti in this case. The RX 580 is seen below the GTX 1070 with a frame rate of 83.2 FPS.

99th percentile frametime analysis is another story altogether. The top four spots in the list are taken by the Radeons and the 1080 Ti sits on the fifth spot with 72 FPS. The RX Vega 64 is on the top with 76.3 FPS. This means that the Radeon cards offer a much more consistent and smoother performance than even the top end GeForce card.

1440p

When the resolution is bumped up slightly to 2560 x 1440, the Radeon RX Vega 64 still manages to stay on the top. But the difference between the Vega 64 and GTX 1080 Ti has narrowed down significantly. The AMD Vega 64 card offers a frame rate of 115 FPS with Forza 7 running at 1440p, while the GTX  1080 Ti gives 102.8 FPS.

As far as frametime is concerned, the top two spots are still taken by the AMD Vega cards with 75.8 FPS scored by the RX Vega 64. The Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti is there on the third place with 71.9 FPS. The RX 580 is now pushed further down to the seventh spot and it settles with 61.4 FPS.

2160p

At 4K resolution, the GTX 1080 Ti dethrones the RX Vega 64 to get its top spot back by scoring 90.8 FPS. The RX Vega 64 follows closely with 83.7 FPS. The performance here is now comparable to the GTX 1080 which scored 75.4 FPS. But both the Vega cards maintain their top two spots in the 99th percentile analysis where the Vega 64 scores 75.3 FPS while the GTX 1080 Ti scores 69.9 FPS.
