AMD showcased the prowess of their Vega gaming GPUs a while back in the similar fashion by comparing their Vega card and a Nvidia GTX 1080. Earlier it was Budapest and Portland, but the story here is slightly different. This time AMD compared their high-end card with the GTX 1080 Ti and the people’s reaction was also rather positive.

If you don’t already know, AMD is on a tour taking its upcoming Vega cards around the world showcasing how well their offering fares against that of Nvidia. Starting from Budapest, the tour had last reached Portland and is now scheduled to be in Los Angeles tomorrow, July 30.

During their fan event in Portland, just like their previous event, AMD used two different PCs with identical configuration, with one running the AMD Vega card, while the other one was using a high-end Nvidia GeForce GTX card. The response from the visitors was quite positive during the event but AMD wanted to take it a step ahead and make the blind test reach many more people.

This time the company partnered with HardOCP to recreate the comparison between the AMD Radeon RX Vega card and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. Again, two identical systems were used along with different graphics cards and displays. FreeSync and G-Sync monitors were used for their compatible card and both worked at a maximum rate of 100Hz.

If that wasn’t enough, both the systems were reformatted and the drivers were installed right before the test. Ten guests were also invited for the test and they included hardcore twitch gamers, gaming journalists, eSports pros, and a former iSoftware developer. The players didn’t know which PC was running what configuration and they played DOOM at 3440×1440. They were made to switch between the PCs according to the pre-decided pattern to allow the participants to feel the difference.

Out of all the participants, six of them said that the experience was identical on both the systems. While three of them preferred the system with AMD Vega card, one said to prefer the PC running Nvidia card. The people who favoured the Vega running system said that it was easier on that PC to focus on a moving target during the swift camera movements.

More details should be revealed during the official launch which is just around the corner. In the meantime, you can watch the video from HardOCP below:
