Google has officially unveiled the Android 8.0 Oreo update in the month of August 2017. Many flagship smartphones are eligible to receive the Oreo update, however, in this article, we will talk specifically about Samsung Galaxy smartphones which are going to receive latest Android Oreo update. Samsung is not known for quickly releasing major Android updates for its devices. However, we at least have an idea which smartphones are going to be updated to Android 8.0.

Samsung Galaxy Smartphones Getting Android 8.0 Oreo Update

The following Samsung Galaxy smartphones are eligible for the recently released Android Oreo update. Few of these smartphones will be getting Android Oreo update as their first major upgrade while few will be getting it as second major upgrade. Since, OEMs promise only two major Android updates, the second timers will be out of luck for next year’s Android 9.0 P.

Galaxy S8 Oreo Update

Released in the month of April 2017, the Galaxy S8 is the latest flagship smartphone from the Korean giant. Considering the previous update trends, the Android Oreo update for Galaxy S8 should roll out in the 4th quarter of this year. However, we do not know any official release schedule yet.

Update (September 8, 2017)

It appears that Galaxy S8 Oreo update is not far from here. A new report from SamMobile confirms that the Korean giant has started working on the Galaxy S8 Android Oreo update. The firmware version for the Android 8.0 Oreo that is planned for Galaxy S8 is said to be G950FXXU1BQI1.

The Galaxy S8 users would be pleased to know that Samsung is working quite fast to ready the Oreo update. The Exynos 8895-powered Galaxy S8 recently found running Android 8.0 Oreo in the Geekbench database. Though it doesn’t confirm the arrival date for the update, it surely gives hope to its users that Samsung is not sitting idle.

Galaxy S8+ Oreo Update

The Galaxy S8+ was released along with the Galaxy S8. Similarly, it is also eligible to get the latest Android Oreo update. There is no official release date known yet, however, we will keep updating this page with all the new info. Keep checking in short intervals.

Update (September 8, 2017)

Along with the firmware version for Galaxy S8 Oreo update, the firmware version for Galaxy S8+ Oreo is also revealed. If the report turns out to be true, then Galaxy S8+ users could expect the firmware version G955FXXU1BQI1 is hitting their devices. The update release date is still not known.

Galaxy Note 8 Oreo Update

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was announced two days after the official launch of Android Oreo. Hence, it is one of the Samsung smartphones to receive the update. The Galaxy Note 7 that was announced in August 2016 was expected to receive Android Nougat update by October or November, but the phablet had to be discontinued because of its faulty battery. This indicates that Galaxy Note 8 Oreo update will probably release before the end of this year.

Galaxy S7 Oreo Update

The Galaxy S7 was shipped with Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in March 2016 and it could taste the Nougat update in the last quarter of 2016. The Galaxy S7 Oreo update roll out is expected in the first or second quarter of 2018.

Galaxy S7 Edge Oreo Update

Since Galaxy S7 Edge was unveiled alongside the Galaxy S7, it was also launched with Marshmallow OS onboard. The Nougat update was brought to it in Q4 2016 and the Android 8.0 Oreo update for Galaxy S7 Edge is pegged to arrive next year in Q1 or Q2.

Galaxy S7 Active Oreo Update

The Android 7.0 Nougat was released by AT&T for Galaxy S7 Active users in March this year even though the handset was made official in June 2016. AT&T is expected to prioritize on releasing the Android 8.0 Oreo update first to Galaxy S8 Active and later on to Galaxy S7 Active.

Galaxy A7 (2017) Oreo Update

The Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) started receiving Nougat update from earlier this month. It was launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS in January this year. There is a possibility that the Galaxy A7 (2017) would be update to Oreo next year after all the major Samsung Galaxy flagships are treated with the latest Android flavor.

Galaxy A5 (2017) Oreo Update

The Android 7.0 Nougat update for Galaxy A5 (2017) was also rolled in this month. It was launched alongside with A7 (2017) with Android 6.0. The Galaxy A5 (2017) Oreo update is expected to arrive when it becomes available for the Galaxy A7 (2017).

Galaxy A3 (2017) Oreo Update

Like the other Galaxy A (2017) series phones, the Galaxy A3 (2017) also came with Marshmallow OS preinstalled. It received the Nougat update by the end of July this year. Hence, the Oreo update is expected to release for Galaxy A3 (2017) when it arrives for other 2017 Galaxy A series phones.

Galaxy J7 (2017) Oreo Update

The Android 7.0 Nougat came preloaded on the Galaxy J7 (2017). Going by the release pattern of Android updates for Galaxy J series phones, the Galaxy J7 (2017) may receive the Oreo around the second or third quarter of 2018.

Galaxy J5 (2017) Oreo Update

Like its elder sibling, the Galaxy J5 (2017) also loaded with Nougat OS. This smartphone is likely to get updated to Android 8.0 Oreo next year around the time the firmware arrives for Galaxy J7 (2017)

Galaxy Note FE Oreo Update

The Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition is nothing but refurbished version of the Galaxy Note 7. It was sold solely in South Korea and its sales ended before the arrival of the Galaxy Note 8. The Galaxy Note FE users could be lucky enough to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update within this year.

Galaxy Tab S3 Oreo Update

The Galaxy Tab S3 that debuted in February this year is the only tablet from the company that comes preinstalled with Nougat OS. Since Sammy has been slowly in releasing software updates for its tablets, the Galaxy Tab S3 Android 8.0 Oreo may arrive in Q3 or later in 2018.

Galaxy C9 Pro Oreo Update

Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro was made official in November 2016. Android 8.0 Oreo for Galaxy C9 Pro seems to be distant dream as the handset has not received the Nougat update yet.

Galaxy C7 Pro Oreo Update

Like the Galaxy C9 Pro, the Galaxy C7 Pro came preinstalled with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS. Even though it is a newer device as it was launched in February 2017, Samsung has not released the Nougat update for it. So, Galaxy C7 Pro users are unlikely to get Android 8.0 Oreo update soon.

Galaxy J7 Prime Oreo Update

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime was also launched with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS. Its Nougat update was spotted earlier in July which suggests that the software update may arrive soon for it. The Android 8.0 Oreo update will probably arrive in Q2 or Q3 next year.

Galaxy A9 Pro Oreo Update

The Galaxy A9 Pro (2016) was unveiled in March 2016. It came with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS. It was spotted with Nougat update in June on GFXBench and Geekbench benchmarking sites which indicates the firmware may arrive within this year. The Android 8.0 Oreo may not arrive for the handset.

Galaxy A8 (2016) Oreo Update

The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow powered Galaxy A8 (2016) was made official in October 2016. The Android 7.0 Nougat update seems to be around the corner for it as it has been spotted with the new OS on Wi-Fi Alliance earlier this month.

Galaxy J7 (2016) Oreo Update

The Galaxy J7 (2016) was launched in April 2016 and it is now reportedly receiving the Android Nougat update. The Android 8.0 Oreo may arrive for it in Q3 or Q4 next year.

Galaxy J5 (2016) Oreo Update

Released with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS in March 2016, the Galaxy J5 (2016) seems to be another Samsung handset that may receive the update as it has been sported with Nougat OS on Wi-Fi Alliance. The Android 8.0 Oreo update for Galaxy J5 (2016) is expected to arrive only after it becomes official for Galaxy J7 (2016).

Galaxy J3 (2017) Oreo Update

The Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) is a new phone that was launched in June this year with Android 7.0 Nougat update. Hence, it is likely to get upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo around the second half of 2018.

Galaxy Tab S2 (2016 models) Oreo Update

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 was launched in 9.7-inch and 8.0-inch editions in July 2015. Both the devices have been updated to Android 7.0 Nougat in April this year. AT&T and Verizon have also released the Nougat OS update for the Galaxy Tab S2. However, there is no confirmation on whether the Android 8.0 Oreo will be made available to these tablets.

Galaxy Tab A (2016 models) Oreo Update

Samsung had released the Galaxy Tab A 7.0 in March 2016 whereas the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 was unveiled in May 2016. Sammy has released Android 7.0 Nougat for Galaxy Tab A 10.1 in May this year. However, there are no details on the arrival of Nougat update for the smaller tablet. The Android 8.0 Oreo can be expected for Galaxy Tab A 10.1 only in the second half of 2018.

Samsung Galaxy Smartphones Will Not Get Android 8.0 Oreo Update

The following smartphones are not eligible for further major Android updates. These Galaxy phones have already received two major Android upgrades. Hence, they won’t be getting Android Oreo update.

Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 Active Oreo Update

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge were unveiled with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. In January 2016, these smartphones were treated with first major Android upgrade of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS. The Galaxy S6 Active was made officially available through AT&T in June 2015. The Nougat update was made available to it in May this year.

Earlier this year, the Android 7.0 Nougat was made available as the second major update for these smartphones. Hence, the Android 8.0 Oreo won’t be arriving to the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Active

Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 Oreo Update

Unveiled in August 2015 with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 were upgraded to Marshmallow OS in June 2016. These 2016 flagships were given Android 7.0 Nougat update at the beginning of Q2 this year.

Galaxy A3 (2016), Galaxy A5 (2016) and Galaxy A7 (2016) Oreo Update

The Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 that were released in 2016 were the first Galaxy A series phones with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. In June 2016, the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow were made available to these phones. In May, the 2016 Galaxy A7 and A5 were updated with Android 7.0 Nougat and the firmware was also released for Galaxy A3 (2016) in June this year. As the 2016 Galaxy A series smartphones have been blessed with two major Android versions, it is evident that Android 8.0 Oreo won’t be coming to these phones.

Galaxy J3 (2016), Galaxy J2 (2016) and Galaxy J1 Oreo Update

The 2016 models of Galaxy J3, Galaxy J2 and Galaxy J1 have not received any OS update and are unlikely to get Android Oreo.
