Kodi 17.3 brings several bug fixes, available for download
Kodi Foundation has started rolling out Kodi 17.3 gradually to various platforms. Android is one of the first platforms to get the update. It wasn’t long ago that Kodi received the 17.2 version update. But since the developers figured out fixes to several critical bugs in version 17.2, the newest version 17.3 which incorporates all the bug fixes is now being rolled out.
Kodi developers, in a recent post, have explained the reason for the quick bump to version 17.3. The post explains that the team uncovered issues due to packaging certain binary add-ons like PVR, visualization, and Inputstream. There was also an issue that surfaced on the older distros like Ubuntu 14.04 in combination with the available GCC 4.8 compiler. The latest version – Kodi 17.3 – fixes both the issues.
The new version is primarily a bugfix release and hence does not include any new features. So, you can expect the features to remain the same and work as intended with the added stability and usability fixes. Specifically, Kodi 17.3 version includes the following fixes –
- Fixed missing binary add-ons on release time.
- Fixed crash on older distros like Ubuntu 14.04 with GCC 4.8 compiler.
In case you haven’t updated to the version 17.2 and above, we recommend you at least update to version 17.2 because it comes with several critical security fixes, including the fix for security flaw which could abuse .zip files trying to traverse to a parent directory. Here are the changes and fixes that are part of Kodi 17.2 –
- Fix selection after channelgroup switching in PVR guide window.
- Fix handling of gaps that caused erratic behaviour in EPG grid.
- Allow backing out of fullscreen pictures by mapping longpress gesture.
- Quick fix for wake up command not being called in PVR power management.
- Use alternative method to check if platform updates have been installed on Windows.
- Set the minimum version in the code which is currently OSX 10.8.
- Fix possible security flaw which could abuse .zip files which try to traverse to a parent directory.
- Use the correct ttc font from the video file for subtitles on Windows.
- Detect and delete zero-byte database files which cause crashes.
