The Surface Pro 4 was the last Surface Pro 2-in-1 iteration from Microsoft that was launched in October 2015. Since the end of last year, Surface Pro fans have been eagerly waiting for the launch of Surface Pro 5. However, Panos Panay who pioneers Surface line of devices had revealed in a recent interview that there is no such product as Surface Pro 5. In the past week, well-known leaker, Evan Blass had revealed that Microsoft would be unveiling a device named the new Surface Pro on May 23. Indeed, Microsoft has announced the new Surface Pro as a successor version of Surface Pro 4.
Since the new Surface Pro does not come with meaningful innovations, Microsoft did not launch it as Surface Pro 5. The new Surface Pro comes with a new design and a new screen. It also comes with improved hardware and software as well as new accessories. The new Surface Pro measures 8.5mm in thickness and its weight is 1.7lb. By this, it becomes the thinnest and lightest Surface tablet from the company. The new hinge present on the rear side of the new Surface Pro supports up to 165-degree movement.

The new Surface Pro comes with a 13.5-inch PixelSense Display that supports a resolution of 2,736 x 1,824 pixels. It offers an aspect ratio of 3:2 and a pixel density of 267ppi. The new Surface Pro also come with color switcher profiles.
The new Surface Pro comes in Intel Kaby Lake processor variants such as Intel Core m3, Core i5 and Core i7. The Intel Core m3 model of the new Surface Pro comes with 4 GB of RAM, 128 GB storage and Intel HD Graphics 615. The Core i5 variant comes with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB storage or 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB storage along with Intel HD Graphics 620.
The Intel Core i7 comes in three editions. The first one has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB storage. The second model has 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB storage and another 16 GB RAM variant with 1 TB storage. All these models are equipped with Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640.
The connectivity features of the new Surface Pro are 1 USB 3.0 port, 1 Mini DisplayPort, microSDXC card reader and 3.5mm earphone slot. It continues to feature the proprietary Surface Connect which means the company has not included USB Type-C or Thunderbolt ports on the device. It is also equipped with two microphones and 1.6W Dolby Audio Premium speakers.
The backside of the new Surface Pro has an 8-megapixel snapper and the one sitting at the front is of 5-megapixel. The device comes with an improved Surface Pen stylus with support for 4,096 pressure points and its latency has been reduced by 21 milliseconds. The new Surface Pen won’t come free with the device. It will be available separately with a pricing of $99. The Signature Type Covers will be available in color choices like Platinum, Burgundy, and Cobalt and it can be purchased for $129.
The new Surface Pro is available on pre-order with a pricing of $799 and its shipment will begin on June 15 in regions like Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, U.K., and US.
