We all know how well Microsoft Surface Pro 4 has been doing in the market. Meticulously crafted to be a powerful, ultrathin laptop, Microsoft Surface Pro 4 has been great for business travel. There are several variants of Surface Pro 4 – all offering different configurations of storage and RAM – 128GB +4G RAM or 256GB + 8GB RAM or the same 128GB + 4GB RAM with Intel Core i5 processor. The Surface Pro 4 sports a 6th Gen Intel Core processor, 128GB SSD, 4GB RAM as the standard configuration. It comes with 12.3-inch PixelSense touchscreen display and Surface Pen. The tablet is compatible with Surface Dial. Microsoft calls it “the tablet that can replace your laptop”. Given the amazing specs Surface Pro 4 came with, the question then is – will Microsoft Surface Pro 5 live up to the high expectations set by its predecessor?
Microsoft Surface Pro 5 to sport Intel’s latest Kaby Lake
All along we have only been hearing rumors about Microsoft Surface Pro 5. But now, it looks like have the first details about what Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be powered with. Paul Thurrott has revealed that the Surface Pro 5 will come with Intel’s latest Kaby Lake processor. He also reveals that Microsoft will not the change the proprietary Surface power connector. What’s more interesting is the fact that Paul Thurrott has revealed that there is going to be “nothing dramatic” about Surface Pro 5.
So then, are we just looking at a Surface Pro 4 successor that only boasts of an improved Intel Kaby Lake processor? Well, it looks like Surface Pro fans will have to settle at this for now. However, retaining the same Surface power connector doesn’t mean Microsoft won’t switch the Surface Pro 5 DisplayPort to a USB-C. The only reason Microsoft is particular about the Surface power connector being the same is that it has always wanted to ensure compatibility of Surface Pro 3 power adapters, docking stations with Surface Pro 4 and this trend is likely to continue even with Surface Pro 5.
Unfortunately, apart from the processor and the Surface power connector, no other details have been revealed. If you have been waiting patiently for Microsoft Surface Pro 5 arrival this Spring, you may be disappointed because several reports have indicated that Surface Pro 5 will not be unveiled at Microsoft’s upcoming Spring event.
