The Windows 10 operating system is undoubtedly the most widely used desktop operating system right now. Even Mac users are now able to use the OS through Apple’s Boot Camp app. However, with the latest Windows 10 Creators Update, Microsoft and Apple warned users not to clean install the OS through Boot Camp.
According to a recent Microsoft Support post, Boot Camp users are suggested not to clean install the new Windows 10 Creators Update on a Mac. If done so, users will receive a 0xc000000f Stop error code from winload.efi. Apple has confirmed the issue by posting a step-by-step guide on how to properly install Windows 10 Creators Update on a Mac.
For those who are curious, essentially, prior to the Creators Update installation, users would need to download and install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update from Microsoft first. The download link can be found here. As with any Boot Camp installation, you would need a blank USB flash drive to save the Windows 10 image in.
From the download page, select what version of Windows 10 you want to download. Make sure you select under the Windows 10 Anniversary Update instead of the Creators Update. Once the download is done, follow the instructions on how to get the Windows 10 image to a USB drive. The rest of the installation process will be dealt with by Apple’s Boot Camp app.
Once the installation is done, users can then proceed to update the OS to the new Creators Update version. To do so, click on the Windows icon and select Settings. From the Settings window, click on the Update & Security. From here, select Windows Update. This can also be done by double-clicking on the Windows 10 update icon on the desktop.
For those who already tried to clean install the Windows 10 Creators Update on a Mac, you can follow this link for instructions on how to remove a Windows partition from the Boot Camp app.
