Online piracy battle continues. It all started with the arrest of Ukranian national Artem Vaulin, the chief of world’s biggest online piracy site Kickass Torrents. Vaulin was arrested in Poland last week for copyright infringement, money laundering, and other charges. Kickass Torrents was taken down and within just two weeks Torrentz.eu mysteriously announced farewell to its users. While many illegal torrenting websites have been forced to shut down, other sites have voluntarily shut down to avoid legal implications. But several clone sites have taken their place and the crackdown on online illegal torrents continues even to this day.
UK Pirate Bay users to be warned
New warnings will be issued to all those using torrent sites like The Pirate Bay as Internet Service Providers from across the UK are set to launch a fresh attack on illegal torrent sites. The warnings, according to a report, will be served as part of Get It Right campaign, being run by the government. It’s being reported that Virgin Media, Sky and BT have already begun sending out warning messages to users of illegal torrents.
According to the report, e-mails will be sent out with this content –
“It looks like someone has been using your broadband to share copyrighted material (that means things like music, films, sport or books). And as your broadband provider, we have to let you know when this happens.”
With VPNs and proxies so widely in use, the crackdown on piracy is becoming increasingly difficult. It remains to be seen how effective these warnings will be in battling online piracy and illegal torrenting.
