Ubisoft “not going to be the same if Vivendi take over” according to a VP of the company. The developer/publisher does pride itself on its independence. Maybe it won’t be the same because they may stop downgrading game graphics so much? Personally, if Vivendi drops Uplay, then most players will celebrate them.
Ubisoft are still wary of Vivendi
PCGamesN published a new statement by Ubisoft’s VP of live operations, Anne Blondel, who explained in-depth that if Vivendi took over it wouldn’t be the same company anymore.
“The thought I have is that I have been [here], with Ubisoft, for 20 years, and I know what made us so successful for 30 years, is being super independent, being very autonomous. [On] sales, well sometimes we take a lot of risk, you think about The Crew, that was a risk. People would look at that like, ‘maybe it’s not going to work, another racing game, what are you thinking?’ Child of Light, Valiant Hearts, all those kinds of titles.”
Most players are not a fan of Ubisoft (where is Beyond Good And Evil 2?) but if they get taken over it would be for the worst. Ubi is often compared as the EA of Europe, but if they get taken over all of Ubi’s IPs will be milked for mobile ports, minimal console work, and even worse PC ports.
If Ubisoft would be taken over in such a way, the talented employees would probably go work for another company. Within the gaming world, they know which employees of Ubisoft are carrying the company. Dead of one company will help in the strengthening of another.
