Skyrim Special Edition is the same game but with graphical tweaks, improved performance and console mod support, and that’s pretty much what it was marketed as. So, should you buy the new game on the PS4 and Xbox One?
Is it worth upgrading to Skyrim Special Edition on the PS4 and Xbox One?
We actually prefer Skyrim over Witcher 3 with the exception of the graphics and animations. We really don’t understand why everyone is so enamored with that game. Witcher 3 is a good game of course, but it can get really dull since the open world for most players just feels empty when you’re not interacting with any essential NPCs. Not to mention, the lack of variety in combat due to the low weapon variety, it’s near impossible to create any viable builds outside of swordsman. Skyrim, on the other hand, makes up for its simplistic combat with tons of options and playstyles. Again, Witcher 3 is a good game, but it did little to push the envelope for open world RPGs to warrant such ridiculous amount of praise.

Price aside, we don’t think it’s at all being presented as a new game. Bethesda has been pretty straightforward about what we were getting with this version, which is just a better version of the original with graphical upgrades, a more stable performance and with console mod support. They’ve never made claims that it would have new content or anything. But we do kind of wish it was released at a cheaper price. We don’t think anybody would be complaining if this was released for 40$.
The original can be purchased for around 20$. So, the fact that they’re charging 60$ for essentially a rerelease is the problem here. If the game was substantially improved then charging a full price would be justified. Anyways, let us know whether you’ll be getting the new Skyrim Special Edition on PS4 and Xbox One.
