The newly released Google Pixel phones are great premium flagships even with their premium price tags and offer a pure Android experience. Though Google has revealed almost every feature and specification that we care for, the tech company did not tell us about one little secret. The HTC-made Google Pixel and Pixel XL have got a secret magnetic switch!
Yes, that’s true. But first, let us tell you something you may not be knowing. HTC phones get an electrical switch that turns on the display when the flip cover is flipped open (if a flip cover is attached, obviously). Well, it looks like HTC has carried forward the same technology in the new Pixel phones. Reportedly, the Google Pixel’s magnetic switch is hidden near the “G” logo on the back of the phones. The switch is activated when a magnetic is placed near the logo.
No, this switch does not turn off the display; it’s just meant to turn the screen on. So even if you remove the magnet from the back, the screen will stay on. Now, why is the electrical magnetic switch on the Google Pixel and Pixel XL important? Well, this switch is a great news for all the third-party accessory makers. They will be able to manufacture flip covers for the Pixel and Pixel XL, and this will give a lot of different customization options to the users.
As of now, Google has not officially acknowledged the magnetic switch present in the Google Pixel phones. Also, no accessory maker has introduced any such flip cover for the phones. But now that the secret is out, we could expect flip covers for Google Pixel and Pixel XL soon that will take advantage of the hidden feature. The electrical switch may not be very important, but it makes us think whether Google has revealed everything about the new Pixel phones to us.
Google Pixel phones were launched last month and come with really powerful specs. There’s Snapdragon 821 and 4GB RAM inside the devices, and both the phones run on Android 7.1 Nougat. If you have bought any of these phones, keep waiting and we’ll let you know if anymore news comes out about the Pixel devices.
