If you have missed the tech news this week, here’s a quick recap. While recovering from the embarrassment and reputation damage caused by exploding Note 7 devices, Samsung is working on its next Galaxy devices – the Galaxy J3 (2017) being one of them. This forthcoming mid-range addition to the Galaxy lineup was recently spotted on Geekbench, revealing some of its specs in the process. Samsung also launched Galaxy C9 and C9 Pro this week. Meanwhile, Bluboo has released a new teaser video flaunting the company’s forthcoming Bluboo Picasso 4G, a slightly upgraded variant of the Picasso with improved specs and features.

This week also saw Huawei launching its Honor Pad 2 tablet with an 8-inch display, Snapdragon 616 processor, and 3GB of RAM. The company also launched the Honor Watch S1 smartwatch, which is water resistant up to 50 meters under water. Google Assistant, the new AI on Pixel and Pixel XL, was in the news when several users who installed Google Assistant on non-Pixel phones reported major issues – from apps crashing to random reboots.

iOS 10 Jailbreak was in the news with reports about Pangu having already completed its work on iOS 10 jailbreak. Pangu’s demonstration of Cydia running on iOS 10 is a solid proof that the OS can be jailbroken. In a way, Pangu has completed its work and is waiting for Apple’s next move, which might be the release of iOS 10.1. This week also saw Internet going down due to DDoS attacks on Dyn Managed Infrastructure. It appears that the disruption was mainly due the attacks on some of the core infrastructure that keeps the internet alive. Twitter, SoundCloud, PayPal, Netflix Spotify, Shopify, Boston Globe, New York Times, Github, Freshbooks, Heroku, Box, Reddit, Vox Media Properties and many other websites faced internet outage issues.

As AI continues to make inroads in our day-to-day lives, Microsoft has created history with its new speech recognition software. The team of researchers and engineers at Microsoft Artificial Intelligence and Research have reported that they have successfully created a technology that recognizes the words in a conversation as well as a person does. The WER of 5.9% – which the team achieved- is the “lowest” ever recorded against the industry standard Switchboard speech recognition task.
