Pokemon is the greatest hand-held system seller of all time. Since its debut 20 years ago, it’s been one of the main reasons why Nintendo’s handhelds have been so successful. With Pokemon Sun and Moon right around the corner, one must ask what is the next step in the series? Well, it’s obviously making the next leap onto the next-gen Nintendo console.
Pokemon Sun and Moon could release on the Nintendo Switch soon
The Nintendo Switch might be about to break one of the greatest conventions of all time, namely, bringing a main-line Pokemon game to a hybrid system. This is obviously bound to happen at some point but the question is when. In an interview with the WSJ, CEO of Pokemon made it clear he plans to make Pokemon games for Nintendo’s next-gen console.
“The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a hand-held device,” said Mr. Ishihara. “We will make games for the NX.”
This hints a main-line Pokemon installment may be bound for the system. So, not only would we be getting Pokemon Sun and Moon but the later Pokemon games on the new console as well. But will the game be different from its 3DS counterpart? That remains to be seen.
We also predict the 3DS family line to be canceled soon. Because it makes no sense to have two hand-held systems. However, considering the window of opportunity for Pokemon Sun and Moon to be featured as the launch title for the Nintendo Switch, it’s going to be quite a challenge for the company to pull it off. The game will be out in less than a month. Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch will release in March of next year. Some would say that’s an ample amount of time to prepare the new Pokemon game for the next gen console. However, adapting to new hardware always takes time.
