OPPO has churned out some quality products this year, including the OPPO R9 and R9 Plus that were launched earlier this year. The selling point of the phones was their 16MP selfie camera, and both devices turned out to be very popular in China with sales crossing 20 million units within 6 months of the launch. It’s the same phone the launched internationally as the OPPO F1 Plus. Today, the successors to those phones have been launched, named as the OPPO R9s and OPPO R9s Plus.
Moving on from the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus-inspired name scheme, let’s talk about the most important features of the new phones. The OPPO R9s gets a 2.0Ghz octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor with 4GB RAM and Adreno 506 GPU. As leaked earlier, the OPPO R9s Plus is powered by the new 1.95GHz Snapdragon 653 octa-core CPU with Adreno 510 GPU. The Plus model gets 6GB RAM, which is a first for OPPO. Both the phones get 64GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 128GB via the given microSD card slot.
Coming to the cameras, the OPPO R9s and R9s Plus feature 16MP rear cameras with 5P lens and f/2.0 aperture. Selfies are served on the phones via a 16MP Sony IMX398 sensor with 6P lens and f/1.7 aperture, and the R9s Plus gets OIS+ too. On the display front, both the phones get Full HD resolution screens, with the OPPO R9s featuring a 5.5-inch display and the R9s Plus flaunting a 6-inch display. There’s Gorilla Glass 5 for added protection.
Both the new phones get an all-metal design and look very beautiful. The R9s comes with a 3,010mAh battery, while the R9s Plus sports a larger 4,000mAh battery. And oh, there’s VOOC Flash Charge technology too, so there’s fast charging. The phones run on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with OPPO’s ColorOS 3.0 on top. The devices get 4G, VoLTE, NFC, Micro USB 2.0, dual SIM dual standby (hybrid slot) and other regular connectivity options. And yes, the front physical home button has an embedded fingerprint sensor on it.
The OPPO R9s and OPPO R9s Plus will be available in Black, Rose Gold, and Gold options. The R9s has been priced at CNY 2799 ($415), while the R9s Plus will cost CNY 3499 ($520). The phones can be pre-ordered now and will start selling in China from 28th October.
OPPO R9s and R9s Plus India Launch and Price
Just like the OPPO F1 Plus was just a renamed OPPO R9 for India, we expect the same to happen with the new OPPO R9s and R9s Plus. It is possible that the new phones will launch in India with a “F” naming, but we cannot be sure about that as of now. The launch should take place in a few months (if it’s going to happen at all), though OPPO hasn’t said anything till now about an India launch for the new devices. Talking about the OPPO R9s price in India, we expect the phone to cost around INR 24,000, while the OPPO R9s Plus price in India may not be more than INR 30,000.
Stay tuned for more updates and we’ll let you know if we hear anything else regarding these phones.
