Pokemon Sun and Moon Mega Kangaskhan has been nerfed.  In one of the new Pokémon sun and moon gameplay trailers there is a clip of Mega Kangaskhan doing less damage than it should. Parental Bond officially nerfed in Pokemon Sun and Moon as well. In most Pokémon tournaments in Japan, Kangaskhan and Garchomp are used quite a lot. So, we wouldn’t deny that those seem a bit too prominent.

Pokemon Sun and Moon Mega Kangaskhan now does much less damage than before

Mega Kangaskhan now only gets a quarter boost on the second attack. Before it was almost half. We think this is fair because the Pokemon can get OP sometimes. It’s also been one of the most frequently used Pokemon. It’s a cut of 17%. However, we don’t think it’s going to completely destroy this Pokemon. Also, you’ll still be getting a second hit and second boost.

The issue of Pokemon balancing goes back to 2014. Pokémon Company  conducted an internal interview with Game Freak director Junichi Masuda and Pokémon battle director Shigeki Morimoto in 2014. During the interview, the two developers shared their thoughts on various aspects of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, the last pair of games released in the series.

One of the topics discussed was the question of balancing the various Pokémon. Masuda mentioned a couple that he feels might be a little too prominent in the competitive Pokémon scene. These of course included Mega Kangaskhan.

“At a recent Pokémon tournament in Japan, Kangaskhan and Garchomp were used quite a lot, so I wouldn’t deny that those seem a bit too prominent,” Masuda says. “But for now, it appears to me that the players seem to have a good grip on strategies to counter one another, so I think we’ve achieved an adequate sense of balance.”
