Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 will finally get the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update in the US. AT&T has announced that the long-awaited Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update will now be rolled out for the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 tablet. The new update is being pushed through FOTA (firmware over the air). Users will need a Wi-Fi connection in order to upgrade to Marshmallow OS.
AT&T also released a short changelog of the update. The Galaxy Tab S 10.5 owners from U.S. carrier will get several new features from Samsung too. The new update comes with September Security Maintenance Release, which takes care of all the bugs and issues that have been uncovered by both Google and its engineers, until last month. Samsung has also added a NumberSync functionality, which allows you to use your tablet to make and receive voice and video calls, using your existing phone numbers. The new functionality works even if you don’t have your smartphone with you.
The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS itself comes with several new features and improvements, which will be added via upgrade. The new update is quite large in size at around 1GB. which means you will need to clear enough storage on your device and wait a while for the update to finish.
AT&T has confirmed that the Marshmallow update is now available. You can manually check for it on your device through Settings >> General tab >> About device >> Software update >> Check for updates.
As of now, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 runs Android v4.4 KitKat version with TouchWiz layer on top. The UI comes with exclusive features and apps such as Multi Window, Private Mode, Kids mode, Magazine UX home screen, Sidesync 3.0 etc.
The tablet features a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display with WQXGA (2,560 x 1,600 pixels) resolution, an aspect ratio of 16:10, and pixel density of 288ppi. It comes with Samsung’s proprietary Adaptive display technology. The tablet can be used in three display modes – Cinema, Photo, and Basic.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB RAM, and 16GB internal storage [up to 128GB via a micro SD card]. It sports an 8-megapixel auto-focus rear camera and a 2.1MP front camera. Connectivity features in the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 include 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11, a/ac/b/g/n, Mobile Hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, and Bluetooth. It is available in White and Bronze color options.
