With its fast growing popularity, Snapchat has pulled off a truly amazing accomplishment by establishing itself in the same league as the other social media giants within a relatively short span of time. Granted, it is not as big as Facebook or Whatsapp yet in terms of the total number of users, but the mobile photo messaging and multimedia sharing app launched in 2011 is getting there.
As of June 2016, Snapchat boasted 150 million active daily users worldwide (up from 110 million in Dec 2015). To expedite the already impressive growth even further, the company is leaving practically no stones unturned to enhance the app’s user experience. In continuation of that strategy, a new Snapchat update accompanied by an important, new addition was announced on Oct 7.
The new feature, as you already know, is the Snapchat Story Playlist.
What does the new Snapchat Story Playlist do?
Most regular Snapchat users usually experience great difficulties while searching for stories from their friends. The new update attempts to resolve that issue. The Snapchat Story Playlist helps reduce bulk from the stories list and brings a much more streamlined experience.
“When we first built Auto Advance we wanted to make it easier to catch up with your friends by playing all of your Stories in recent updates back-to-back,” the company announced.
“Unfortunately, this change made it impossible to individually choose which Story to watch. Sometimes we just want to see what our close friends or family are up to – not all of our friends – and Auto Advance prevented that.”
Because of that, Snapchat is now scraping the automatic back-to-back Stories playback and replacing it with the new functionality that can give preference to stories from your friends in the list. This essentially means that you will be able to create your own playlist for Snapchat stories.
Despite not being too high profile, the new feature is expected to go a long way when it comes to enhancing the overall user experience on the site.
“Simply tap on a Story to view it. We won’t automatically advance you to the next Story in recent updates,” the Snapchat announcement continued
“We haven’t given up entirely on this idea of making it easier to catch up with friends – so we took what we learned from Auto Advance and built Story Playlist.”
So far so good..! But there is a downside to this new update too. Unfortunately, you won’t be getting a persistent playlist that would fetch you new stories from your friends every. That another way of saying that you would have to create a new playlist every time you want to watch the new videos posted by your friends.
