The iPhone 7 happens to be the first ever iPhone to come with a water resistant body. It is rated IP67 which, in laymen term, means that the device has the highest dust-resistance rating in the Ingress Protection (IP) rating scale, and can withstand high-pressure water jets from any direction (or can be immersed up to a depth of 1 meter for a limited period.)
The Samsung Galaxy S7, on the other hand, comes with an IP68 rating. That basically translates into the same dust-resistance rating as the iPhone 7, but a notch higher when it comes to water resistance.
While such scientific and carefully calibrated evaluation standards suffice for most people to reach their own conclusion regarding the “might” of a device, there are also those who prefer to conduct their own tests.
The guys over at EverythingApplePro on YouTube belongs to the second category. And as you will see in the video below, they put both the iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7 to extreme tests to determine their limits.

They first submerged the two phones for five minutes in gradually rising water depth to see which one gives up sooner and stops functioning.
As we fast forward to the final stages of the test, both devices are thrown in water at 10.5 meters. While the iPhone 7 suffers some damage in the liquid under its display, it keeps working. Unfortunately for the S7, it seems to bite the dust by the end of the test refuses to power on altogether (although, the front-facing LED still continues to flash, leaving some hope for a later revival – however thin!)
However, allow us to make it clear that such tests should not always be taken on the face value – not only because they are not usually based on scientific methods, but also because sometimes they can be an extension of the marketing efforts by one side or the other.
And needless to say, you shouldn’t try tests like these on your own phone as the same results can not be guaranteed by any means.
