During Tokyo Game Show 2016, Hideo Kojima revealed a few details about the upcoming open world game, Death Stranding.
Death Stranding Release Date
Hideo Kojima didn’t provide a specific release date for Death Stranding. However, he did confirm that the game’s release date is already set. He said that it will be out before the Tokyo Olympics (2020). He further stated that it will be released before the year in which Arika will be released.
For those who don’t know, Akira is an upcoming Anime movie which is set to release in 2019. As Kojima said that it will be released a year before Akira is released, so we can expect Death Stranding to arrive in 2018.
Death Stranding Co-Op Experience
Although we already know that Death Stranding will feature a single player experience, it will also have co-op elements. Hideo Kojima gave very little information regarding the co-op elements of the game. According to him, the co-op that Death Stranding will feature will be one of its own, something we have never ever seen before. So fans definitely have something to look forward to.
Death Stranding Female Protagonist
Hideo Kojima also revealed that there will be a female protagonist in Death Stranding, but they are still looking for someone who will be fit for the role. Currently, we only know that the star from AMC’s The Walking Dead, Norman Reedus will play the role of the male protagonist in Death Stranding. However, Kojima stated that the role Norman Reedus will play in Death Stranding will show a way different side of him, so fans of The Walking Dead shouldn’t expect to see Daryl.
Kojima was also asked that “Did Norman Reedus posed in a nude body to capture the sessions for Death Stranding’s trailer?”, He said, “No, he was wearing underwear, unfortunately.”
Hideo Kojima formed his own studio, Kojima Productions, after leaving Konami and the studio’s first project is Death Stranding. The game was first revealed during E3 2016 through a teaser trailer which featured Norman Reedus. According to Kojima, the game is being developed on a well-known third-party engine. Yoji Shinkawa, the person who is now working on Death Stranding, said that he would like to see mechs in the game, thus giving fans a hint at what they can expect to see in Death Stranding.
Shinkawa was the character and mechanical designer for the Metal Gear series. After Kojima formed his own studio, Shinkawa joined him and started working on Death Stranding.
Death Stranding will be released some time in 2018 for the PS4. The game is developed by Kojima Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
