Asus should soon launch its newest flagship device in India in the form of Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe. The device packs serious hardware, a huge 1080p 5.7-inch display, and a high-resolution, and 23MP camera. It should release during October, with the expected price of around Rs. 45,000. Let’s compare it with Xiaomi’s flagship for 2016, the Mi 5.
Design, Dimensions
Both phones look striking; Xiaomi with its ceramic body, gentle curves, and extremely thin bezels; Asus with its metal body, thin profile, thin bezels and interesting main camera design. Both phones sport an attractive modern industrial design.
Xiaomi Mi 5 is, of course, smaller in size since it packs a 5.15-inches screen compared to Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe and its huge 5.7-inch display. The Mi 5 is thinner (7.3 mm vs. 7.5 mm), narrower (69.2 mm vs. 77.4 mm) and smaller (144.6 mm vs. 156.4 mm).
Display, Hardware
Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe comes with a big and bright 1080p 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display, guaranteeing rich, saturated colors, and high brightness.
Xiaomi Mi 5 has a smaller, 5.15-inches IPS LCD 1080p display; in comparison to Super AMOLED, IPS LCD displays offer better-viewing angles and more natural colors.
The Zenfone 3 Deluxe features Snapdragon 820 (2×2.15 GHz Kryo & 2×1.6 GHz Kryo along with Adreno 530 GPU), 6 GB of RAM, and 64 gigabytes of expandable internal storage.
Xiaomi Mi 5 also comes with Snapdragon 820, but with different clock speeds, depending on the edition. Standard Edition comes with 3 gigs of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage and a slower version of the chipset (2×1.8 GHz Kryo & 2×1.36 GHz Kryo along with Adreno 530 GPU); Prime Edition has 3 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal storage and a standard CPU clock (2×2.15 GHz Kryo & 2×1.6 GHz Kryo); Pro edition has the same clock speed as the Prime edition, but it comes with 4 gigabytes of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. In all three cases, internal storage can’t be expanded.
Camera
Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe has a whopping 23MP (f/2.0) main camera, supporting OIS, laser autofocus and having dual-LED flash; the camera is capable of 4K (2160p) video recording. Selfie one counts 8 MP (f/2.0).
Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with a solid 16 MP (f/2.0) main snapper with OIS and dual-LED flash, but without laser autofocus. It is capable of recording 4K video @30fps. The front-facing camera has a 4 MP (f/2.0).
Battery
Asus put 3000 mAh battery inside the Zenfone 3 Deluxe; not very big, regarding the phone’s screen size, but it should be enough for one day of use.
Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with a 3000 mAh battery; it has the same capacity as the one found on the Zenfone 3 Deluxe, but since the Mi 5 packs a smaller screen, it should be more than enough.
Both phones pack a fingerprint sensor and come with Android Marshmallow. We still don’t know the exact price the Zenfone 3 Deluxe will come with, but rumors tell us that it should be around Rs. 45,000. The Mi 5 can be bought for Rs. 24,999 (32 GB version). All in all, Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe looks like a proper powerhouse, but for us to recommend it we would have to know its retail price. If the phone debuts with a price tag of around Rs. 45,000 the device will be just too expensive for what it offers.
