Lenovo K5 Note got released in January 2016 and quickly became one of best sellers in India. How does it compare to Samsung’s 2016 version of J5? Find out here.

Dimensions: With a 5-5 inch display (compared to 5.2-inch one featured on J5), Lenovo K5 Note is a visibly bigger unit. Dimensions are 152 x 75.7 x 8.5 mm making the phone bigger, wider and bulkier than J5 (145.8 x 72.3 x 8.1 mm). The K5 Note is also a bit heavier (165g compared to J5’s 159g). Subjectively, K5 Note looks much better, it’s prettier than the J5 with narrow bezels, better build quality, and generally more appealing body.

Hardware: Lenovo K5 Note sports Mediatek Helio P10 comprising 4×1.8 GHZ Cortex A-53 and four 1.0 GHZ Cortex A-53 cores. The graphics chip used is Mali-t860MP2. Galaxy J5 has Snapdragon 410 SoC (Quad-core 1.2 GHZ cortex A-53 coupled with Adreno 306 GPU). When looking at Antutu scores, P10 scores around 50,000 pints while Snapdragon 410 can go up to 27,000 points, making P10 used in K5 Note much more powerful.

K5 Note is equipped with 2 or 4 gigs of RAM and has 16/32GB of internal memory. On the other side, we have 2GB of RAM and 16 gigabytes of internal storage packed in Galaxy J5 (2016). Both phones support expandable memory, up to 128GB.

Display & Camera: On Lenovo K5 Note we can find a large 1080p 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with a nice 401ppi pixel density. J5 has inferior 5.2-inch Super AMOLED screen sporting only 720p resolution offering 282ppi pixel density. You can choose between more saturated colors (J5) or better resolution (K5 Note).

K5 Note possesses 13MP f/2.2 main camera capable of recording 1080p@30fps. J5 has 13MP camera with slightly bigger f/1.9 aperture size; the main camera is also capable of recording 1080p@30fps video. K5 Note front facing camera has a bigger resolution that the one in J5 (8MP vs. 5MP).

Battery, Features & Price: The K5 Note has a solid 3500mAh battery, while the J5 offers slightly smaller 3100mAh battery. Looking at their screen sizes both batteries are more than enough for a day’s work. Samsung J5 comes with the newest (not for long) Android version; v6.0.1 (Marshmallow). The Note K5, on the other hand, chipped with android 5.1 Lollipop, but should get an Android 6 update in the future.

One thing that Galaxy J5 don’t have is a fingerprint scanner, which can be found on the back of K5 Note. K5 Note (4GB/32GB) can be picked up for Rs. 13499 (around $200) while the Galaxy J5 can be found for Rs. 11990 ($180). Looking at the price, 2GB or RAM, better SoC, better build quality, bigger screen and resolution, and more internal memory are definitely worth the price difference.
