iOS growth over the past months seemed stagnant as Android continued to grow every quarter. Currently, Android has the largest market share with iOS close by and Windows Mobile trailing. Android is popular in most parts of Asia and Africa, but it continues to grow in Europe and North America. Apple’s popularity, on the other hand, continues to drop every quarter, but all hope is not lost.
According to statistics by Kantar, iOS enjoyed significant growth in the last quarter. But that does not mean Android performed badly; it continued to record growth in most parts of the world.
In Europe, iOS recorded the largest increase in growth in France where sales grew by 3.4 percent to reach 20.2 percent in the second quarter of 2016. In the UK, the iOS best market in Europe, iOS increased by 3.1 percent to reach 37.2 percent. iOS overall performance in the EU5 (UK, Spain, Italy, Germany and France) rose 0.7 percent to reach 18.2 percent. However, that figure is ridiculous compared to Androids 76.8 percent in the region. Android increased by 5.5 percent.
Android registered a drop of 0.6% to 65.5% in the US while iOS recorded an increase of 1.3 percent to reach 31.8 percent. iOS experienced the largest loss in growth in Japan where it decreased by 4.2% to 38% while Android improved by 6.6 percent to reach 61 percent.
It does not quite beat logic that iOS registered some growth, yet Apple did not launch any new iPhone in the second quarter of 2016. The iPhone 6s and 6S plus enjoyed good sales as sellers heavily discounted the devices in anticipation of the new iPhones to launch in September. Actually, the two devices managed to surpass the Galaxy S7 Edge in sales. The iPhone SE performed well enough to take the third position in the most sold phones in June, Softpedia reports.
All is not lost for iOS as it struggles to keep up with Android. The sales of the upcoming iPhones are likely to boost growth. However, Apple faces a challenge in the upcoming Android devices.
