Recent updates for Pokémon GO have caused an unusual bug that is makes it impossible for you to track your Pokémon. The three footprints shown under the Pokémon for tracking them don’t change: i.e. they remain constant, instead of decreasing to indicate that you’re getting closer to a Pokémon. It sounds like this should break the game thoroughly, but it turns out there is a way to get around this. The method, found out by iDigitalTimes, allowed them to catch a Lickitung. Continue reading to find out how it works.
As soon as the Pokémon you want appears on screen, you need to pick a direction to walk in. As you keep walking, notice that your Pokémon’s position in the list of nearby Pokémon will change. The Pokémon in the top row are the ones closest to you. Keep walking until the Pokémon either appears, or drops off the top row. If this happens, then you know that you were walking in the wrong direction. Do an about turn, and retrace your steps until the Pokémon reappears up high, then pick another direction to walk in.
It sounds a bit tedious, but it will have to do for now. Here’s hoping Niantic fixes the tracking bug soon. According to some reports, you can also try restarting the app repeatedly to see if the number of footprints decrease.
