Now that it’s been a few days since Pokémon GO has officially taken over the world (or well, some of it, anyway), most players have a decent coterie of Pokémon. So you might have your Squirtles and Zubats, Pidgeys and Magikarps. You might even have caught an Abra, hard as it is. But the real question that remains is this: where are all the legendaries at?
We know for a fact that Niantic has not ignored legendary Pokémon when designing Pokémon GO. Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres, the three legendary birds of the Kanto region in the Pokémon universe, form the mascots of the three teams present in the game. Zapdos represents Team Instinct, Articuno leads Team Mystic and Moltres is front and centre for Team Valor. Furthermore, we know from the game’s trailer that Mewtwo is also present in Niantic’s plans for Pokémon GO.
Being legendary Pokémon, it makes sense that the three birds are not seen in random encounters like your regular Pokémon. The question, then, is where are they at all? Our theory is that Niantic is reserving them for special events, where perhaps a number of players may have to assemble at a location and battle the legendary as a “boss”. This was hinted in the original trailer for Pokémon GO, which depicted hundreds of player gathering in Times Square, and all of them receiving a Mewtwo upon beating him as a collective team.
What do you think about legendary Pokémon in Pokémon GO? How will Niantic implement them? Let us know in the comments below.
