ASUS had promised to upgrade its ZenFone lineup to the latest Android Marshmallow by the Q2 of 2016, however, the Taiwanese smartphone maker couldn’t make up to its deadline and is still striving hard to roll out the Marshmallow update for the left out ZenFone devices. Many ZenFones including the ZenFone Max and ZenFone Laser 2 recently received the Android Marshmallow update. In the latest addition to this series, ASUS has started rolling out the Android Marshmallow update for two of its very popular devices, ZenFone Zoom (ZX551KL) and ZenFone Selfie (ZD551KL).
The firmware version of the ZenFone Zoom will get upgraded to version 4.21.40.74 while the firmware version of the Zenfone Selfie will go up to 21.40.0.1692. The new Marshmallow update will bring a ton of new Marshmallow features like Google Now on Tap, Doze Mode, Customizable App Permissions among many other cool features. Thankfully, a lot of bloatware have been removed a few other apps from Google and Facebook have been included.
You can check the complete update log for the ZenFone Zoom here and the ZenFone Selfie here. ASUS has started rolling out the Marshmallow update over-the-air (OTA) and it should reach you anytime soon. The update is being rolled out in phases and it still may take some time to reach all regions, so don’t get worried if haven’t received the update notification yet. However, for the impatient ones like me, there’s always an OTA Zip file. Just download the OTA Zip file from here and here and flash it to get the latest Marshmallow update. However, if you’re unfamiliar with the flashing process, we will advise waiting for the OTA update notification.
