Canon 5D is the favourite camera for most of the photographers nowadays, and more than that, indie filmmakers just love it. Canon cameras are now used for film-making and the high-end Canon 5D Mark III was a hit in that aspect. Since then, Canon has understood that more video features and capabilities are expected from professionals in the 5D, which is why there are rumors that the upcoming Canon 5D Mark IV (Mark 4) will be a more video-focused DSLR camera.
Of course, no official details have leaked out yet, but there are some rumors doing rounds on the internet. According to a report by FirstPost, the Canon 5D Mark 4 could be launched in a couple of months. It is being said that some units of the fourth-gen 5D have been sent out to Canon’s close and trusted photographers who are now testing the camera’s capabilities. This hints that the hardware is ready and only the software is being worked upon, which shouldn’t take more than a few weeks to be rounded off.
A PCTablet report suggests that the 5D Mark IV will be released in August and might be priced around INR 2,00,000, which is roughly rounded off to around $3000. That price is obviously for the body only. The camera is expected to be capable of shooting 4K video and 1080p videos at 120fps. The new DIGIC 7 image processor will be seen in the 5D Mark 4. As of now, only the high-end Canon 1DC and 1D X Mark II can shoot 4K.
So yes, the Canon 5D Mark IV will be one of the most affordable DSLR cameras capable of shooting 4K. A report from Fstoppers expects the much-awaited camera to come with more exciting features like GPS, Wi-Fi, fully-featured touchscreen, CFast, anti-flicker, and more. Of course, take this news with a pinch of salt unless official details arrive.
