Apple took a really significant jump in terms of hardware with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Faster processor, more RAM, better cameras, and 3D Touch made the 6s a compelling upgrade over the iPhone 6. However, we are now at a point where buying a new iPhone 6s or 6s Plus might not be a smart move for everyone, as the iPhone 7 is going to be launched in just a few more months.
But is the iPhone 7 worth waiting for? Or should you rather buy the iPhone 6s instead? Well, we have got the answers to your questions below.
Looks Are Going to Be the Same
The last design update came with the iPhone 6, which adopted a slimmer and a larger body than the 5s. The new design was carried over in the 6s, which is actually 0.2 mm thicker and around 14g heavier than the iPhone 6.
Now if you remember, the design used in the first ever iPhone was used in iPhone 3GS, and the next design change came in the iPhone 4, carried up to the iPhone 4s. Of course, the overall frame did not change in the iPhone 5 and 5s as well, and only some visual changes like Touch ID, dual tone back, diferent camera LED, etc. were introduced.
Also, recent predictions have said that the iPhone 7 will be carrying the same design as the iPhone 6 and 6s albeit with a few visual changes possibly. It is expected that a major design overhaul will come with the iPhone 8 in 2017. So looks-wise, nothing new is expected in the iPhone 7 over the 6s.
Will iPhone 7 Get a New Processor and More RAM?
We have seen a new iteration of Apple’s A series of processors every year, so it is highly unlikely that the company will use its A9 processor in the iPhone 7. So yes, the iPhone 7 will get a new processor, the A10, and we also expect a bump in the RAM to 3 GB. Many people would argue with the fact that 2 GB of RAM is enough for now, but from Apple’s point of view, that would make the difference between iPhone 7 and 6s smaller, thus denting the sales of the new phone.
Dual Cameras for the iPhone 7 Plus?
The 8MP/1.2MP setup was used since the iPhone 4s and was long overdue for an overhaul. Apple understood the demands very well and introduced the new 12MP/5MP camera setup with the iPhone 6s, with the 6s Plus getting OIS too.
Now if rumors are to be believed, the iPhone 7 will get the same setup as it is already very great and does not need a change yet. However, it is said that the bigger iPhone 7 Plus might come with a dual-camera setup, suggested by several leaks and expert predictions. OIS will obviously be there, but some rumors even suggest an optical zoom.
iPhone 7 Might Be Waterproof With No Headphone Jack
This is one of the longest-running rumors of all time about the iPhone 7. It is being speculated since months that Apple might skip the 3.5mm headphone jack this time and might standardize its Lightning port for charging, data transfer, and audio output. Connected with it is another rumor that Apple is trying to close all the possible spaces on the body in order to make the iPhone 7 waterproof.
Well, we do expect some kind of water resistance as Samsung, Apple’s biggest rival, has already been doing it. But it is possible that the waterproofing and removal of the 3.5mm jack might be pushed on for the iPhone 8 next year. Nothing can be said now as these things are kept in tight wraps at Apple.
Everything Else Will Remain the Same
The new 3D Touch display is a success and works perfectly as advertised; it’s already become a need for the 6s users, so we find no reason why the iPhone 7 won’t have it. Other than the things we mentioned above, we don’t expect anymore changes. No new color schemes or no in-box Bluetooth earpods (those might be seen in iPhone 8).
Verdict: Should You Wait for the iPhone 7?
Frankly speaking, you don’t need to. Even experts have said that the iPhone 7 is not going to be a device that you must have, so the iPhone 6s will still be a great choice if you don’t want to spend the extra bucks. If you can hold on to your horses for another year, we can say with confidence that the iPhone 8 is going to give you every reason to upgrade. But the iPhone 7 might just turn out to be an iPhone 6s with significant tweaks and improvements.
Anyway, it’s just 5 months before Apple launches the iPhone 7. If you are going to buy the iPhone 6s now, we suggest you wait until September. That’s because when the iPhone 7 launches, we expect a price cut for the 6s and 6s Plus.
