NeoGAF forum is a great way of finding information about upcoming games, but this time, they really outdid themselves. A user named Mideon posted the alleged map of the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2. The first clue that told us this could be the actual map of the upcoming game was the fact that the image was quickly removed after posting. Next, two areas from the original game, Great Plains (along with the city of Blackwater) and Tall Trees can be found on the leaked map, but it seems that those two areas will occupy a small portion of the map, meaning that RDR 2 will have much larger map than its predecessor, which is also a logical move by Rockstar.
Other information gained from the map suggests that there will be some sort of fast travel (there is a railroad network) and that main city in the sequel will be named New Bordeaux, the same city that’ll be featured in the upcoming Mafia 3, a game that’ll be released by Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar. New Bordeaux looks much bigger than Blackwater, which is normal since Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released for PS4 and Xbox One, that have much more power than their predecessors.
It seems that boats will be prominent in the new game; there are much more rivers on the map, and most areas are in fact “islands” surrounded by water. If we remember previous GTA games, this move could mean that a gradual unlocking of areas as the player progresses with the main storyline will also be present again. Red Dead Redemption 2 should have much more cities (there are eight of them on the map) and lots of settlements, making the game much more “alive and real” when compared to the first one. The map also has one island that looks like it’s separated from the main map, which can mean that you’ll visit it when playing story missions, something similar we had in GTA San Andreas and CJ’s short trip to Liberty City.
That’s about all we could figure out just by analyzing this map, but there are sure more clues in it. Do you have some more clues that can lead to more interesting information? If you do, please let us know in the comment section bellow. Red Dead Redemption 2 hasn’t been officially announced, but rumors that showed up earlier this year clearly hint that the game should be revealed at this year’s E3.
