Pokémon Sun and Moon is one of the most anticipated games of the year – definitely the most anticipated game for the 3DS, and we’re going to ride the hype train for it all year long. Along the way, of course, we’ll see a trickle of new information stream in, and we have one such spurt of new information right now, courtesy Pokémon developer Junichi Masuda.

Junichi Masuda recently appeared at the April 3rd episode of Gathering at the Pokémon House, where he was asked how many new Pokémon will be included in the game. Masuda did not give a straight answer, instead joking that there will be more than ten new Pokémon in Sun and Moon.

This doesn’t really sound like particularly shocking news, but what you can take this as is confirmation that we’re looking at Generation 7 at last, and that this is not a sequel series to Pokémon X and Y (the way Black 2 and White 2 were to Black and White). As for the total number of new Pokémon (and the full size of the Pokédex), it seems Game Freak and Nintendo are still keeping it close to their chests.

We are scheduled to get more information about the new Pokémon games starting with the April issue of CoroCoro magazine, so as the months go by, expect to learn about the new region of the game, as well as the starters and more.
