Canonical has just announced that the OTA-10 update for the Ubuntu Mobile OS is finally here for all supported Ubuntu Phone devices and tablets. The new update brings a host of new features to the OS platform, including compatibility with virtual private networks (VPN), a shiny new welcome wizard, and the ability to download phone updates via mobile network.

It will also empower Web apps to access the device’s camera, microphone, accelerometer, and vibration. Additionally, the update will also add native selecting, copying and pasting abilities to the Web browser app.

Last but not the least; all native apps will now be able to conveniently access the device’s new color palettes as well as the Japanese keyboard.

“We have just copied most of the OTA-10 images to the stable channels and started the phased upgrade procedure…It was a huge update and a big challenge with all the new devices appearing, but I hope everyone will be satisfied with what we prepared,” said Łukasz Zemczak , Ubuntu Landing Team Lead, in today’s announcement

Two new apps

In addition to the aforementioned added features, the update also brings along two apps that come bundled with Ubuntu OTA-10 update:

  1. The Dekko e-mail client from Dan Champman, and
  2. uNav – a new-generation GPS navigator app designed by Marcos Costales.

It’s another thing that most Ubuntu Phone loyalists probably had these apps already installed on their devices.

Like the previous updates, OTA-10 is being dispatched as a phased update, meaning it is expected to take as long as 24 hours to finally arrive for all Ubuntu Phone users out there. So, just in case you are yet to be notified about the update by your device, check back again after a couple of hours or retry on April 7, 2016.
