Joseph Salisbury from Canonical announced the latest newsletter of the Ubuntu Kernel Team, on March 23, 2016, on a mailing list of one of the projects. Ubuntu also launched another kernel update for the upcoming Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) OS. The update brought the latest and more stable Linux 4.4.6 kernel just days before the Final Beta launch scheduled for March 24, 2016 (today).

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

The latest update is free of bugs as reported by Marius Nestor of Softpedia. The Ubuntu 16.04 LTS machine which was updated worked flawlessly on the new kernel build (linux-4.4.0-15.31). However, it is still to be confirmed whether this kernel will be included in the ISO images of the Final Beta build. The beta testers can, however, can install it easily from the repositories.

Ubuntu kernel developers said in the newsletter “Our Xenial kernel has been re-based to v4.4.6 and is available for testing in the archive, ie linux-4.4.0-15.31. Please test and let us know your results. Also, as an early reminder, Xenial Kernel Freeze is ~2 weeks away on Thurs, April 7.”

The final Beta build will be released later today putting an end to the development cycle of the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus). After April 7, there would be a kernel freeze and there are also chances of an RC (Release Candidate) build around April 14, which, however, the RC build won’t be made public.

The highly anticipated Ubuntu 16.04 LTS OS will finally release on April 21st,2016. The new OS will be available to the current Ubuntu 15.10 and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS users who’ll be able to upgrade their existing systems.

The Final Beta version of the Ubuntu 16.04 is due to release today. We would keep a keen eye on it and will keep you posted with in-depth reviews and analysis. Till then, stay tuned.
