After months of anticipation, Pokkén Tournament has finally released for the Nintendo Wii U on March 18th, 2016. The game had originally released on Japanese arcades as early as June 16th, 2015, but is now out, for the first time, on a home console. Nintendo has put out a press release announcing what to expect from the Pokémon fighting game.

The game was developed in collaboration with Bandai Namco, and combines elements of the Tekken series of games. Hence the name, see? Pokémon + Tekken = Pokkén? Very clever. The game features move sets and abilities for each character.

According to Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, the game will appeal to a wide range of players: Pokémon fans, fighting game players, and casual gamers as well. There are a total of 16 Pokémon fighters in the game, possessing weak, strong and special attacks that are based on the Pokémon’s actual moves from the games.

The game features a single-player mode as well, allowing players to level up Pokémon’s stats. The game features amiibo support as well – not unusual at this point for a Nintendo game – which allows players to unlock items in the game. The game is currently available in stores, in the Nintendo eShop and at Nintendo.com, for $59.99.
