Xiaomi might be the most-selling budget smartphone in the world, but it definitely is not close to Huawei, one of the three largest smartphone manufacturers in the world. Huawei’s Honor line is something especially talking about, as we have seen some great Honor phones launch at great prices with greater specs under their hoods.

The latest in the Honor lineup is the Honor 5X, which was released just recently and is competing with the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Lenovo K4 Note, and the LeEco Le 1s. Has the Honor 5X got what it takes to be the best budget smartphone in the market right now? Let’s find out.

Design and Display

At the front, the Honor 5X has got a completely black facade. But move towards the rear and you will see the all-metal brushed body shining in glory. Of course, it does not feel like metal at all, which might be a turn-off for many. But hey, the phone feels lighter even than many plastic phones in the segment, which tells us that Huawei has gone way too ahead to make the phone look like metal but behave like plastic.

The Honor 5X gets a 5.5-inches FullHD display, something that almost every phone in the segment offers, so nothing new here.

Under-the-Hood

Powered by a 1.5GHz Snapdragon 616 processor, the phone gets 2GB/3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. We would have expected a 32GB storage option with the 3GB RAM variant, but it’s fine as the microSD slot allows you to expand the memory up to 128GB. The Honor 5X comes with a 3000mAh non-removable battery. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box with EMUI 3.1 on top of it.

Camera and Extras

The Honor 5X, just like its competitors in its price segment, features a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and autofocus. For selfies, there’s a 5MP camera at the front. Again, nothing out-of-the-ordinary to talk about.

Talking about extras, there’s a fingerprint sensor at the back, which helps you keep your phone more secure.

Price and Verdict

The Honor 5X costs $200 and offers a decent overall package. If you are a fan of Honor smartphones and this is your budget, then go for this phone. Or else, we would suggest you pick up the LeEco Le 1s or the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 that cost about the same and offer more powerful specs.
