Xiaomi Mi5, one of the highly-anticipated smartphone launches of the year, has finally been launched today at the MWC 2016 in Barcelona. The company has gained huge domestic as well as international popularity and this is the perfect time to take the stakes higher with a flagship phone that will compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S7.
Hugo Barra, VP at Xiaomi, was hosting the Xiaomi Mi5 launch at the MWC. The announcement is global, and doing it at one of the biggest events of the industry will work wonders for the company’s popularity and sales. However, we shouldn’t expect a global availability of the Xiaomi Mi5 at this point of time.
The Xiaomi Mi5 launch event started today on February 24 later at 9:00 CET and has ended now. Here are the details that we got from the launch.
Xiaomi Mi5 Specs and Features
The Mi5 has been launched and the dimensions have been revealed. It’s thickness is 7.1mm and it weighs 129grams (iPhone weighs 14grams more). The Xiaomi Mi5 has been built with high-grade zirconia ceramic that is very hard to crack and is more expensive than high-grade glass. Available in Black, White, and Gold, the phone looks beautiful.
The phone gets a 5.15-inches screen and comes with a fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button at the front. Hugo Barra says that this phone is insanely fast with Snapdragon 820 under its hood. Then there’s NFC and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 for 20% faster charging. The Xiaomi Mi5 comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 7 on top.
The Xiaomi Mi5 flaunts a 16MP rear camera and a 4MP front camera (Qualcomm Spectra Image processor), which goes well with the previous leaks and rumors. Also, the rear camera is the Sony IMX298 sensor with PDAF and DTI that prevents the light from leaking and offers better shots in low-light and clearer images of moving objects.
The company has also launched the Xiaomi Mi5 Pro that comes with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. This variant costs CNY 2,699 ($413 or INR 28,500 roughly).
