After the Pangu iOS 9 jailbreak was patched by Apple in the iOS 9.1 release, there have been quite a few significant developments in the jailbreak scenario. We have heard about the TaiG team, the Pangu team, and some lesser known but talented hackers working on an iOS 9.2 jailbreak. We also know who jailbroken iOS 9.2.1 and also succeeded in coming up with an iOS 9.3 jailbreak.
When will be the iOS 9.3 jailbreak released? Who will be releasing the next jailbreak? Let’s take the events in order and try to find out the truth behind all the latest leaks and rumors.
Apple Released iOS 9.2.1 Beta 1 and Beta 2
Just recently, iOS 9.2 was released for the public, and Apple started seeding iOS 9.2.1 beta 1 to the Developer Program as well as the Public Beta Program. After a few days, the second iOS 9.2.1 beta was rolled out. Owing to its minor “.1” upgrade, we were expecting very few new features apart from the regular bug fixes and speed improvements.
iOS 9.2.1 Jailbroken But Not Released
Shortly after iOS 9.2.1 beta 2 was rolled out, popular Italian hacker Luca Todesco took to Twitter to announce that he had jailbroken iOS 9.2.1 in its beta phase itself! This excited the whole jailbreak community. A screenshot of Cydia running on iOS 9.2.1 beta 2 on an iPhone 6 was posted by the hacker. However, Luca also announced that he would not be releasing the jailbreak, which came as a major disappointment.
iOS 9.3 Beta 1 Released, iOS 9.2.1 Scrapped
As usual, we were waiting for the third iOS 9.2.1 beta to be released soon. However, Apple gave us a real surprise when it released iOS 9.3 beta 1 a couple of days back, thus ending the existence of iOS 9.2.1 from that moment. The obvious reason behind this move is the inclusion of quite a many new features and lots of improvements, which is why it was a major point upgrade and Apple decided to name it as iOS 9.3.
iOS 9.3 Jailbreak Found
Just a few hours after the first iOS 9.3 beta was seeded, the same hacker Luca Todesco announced that he had succeeded in jailbreaking iOS 9.3 beta 1. He posted a video of the same, showing the jailbroken firmware and Cydia on his iPhone. This new iOS 9.3 beta was the immediate release after the second iOS 9.2.1 beta that was jailbroken by the hacker. So Luca most probably used the same exploits for jailbreaking iOS 9.3. But the hacker disappointed us again, as this new iOS 9.3 jailbreak too won’t be released by him.
Pangu iOS 9.3 Jailbreak Coming Soon?
In case you don’t know, hacker Luca Todesco was involved in the making of the iOS 9 jailbreak with Pangu. An educational guess says that he must be the in-charge of finding jailbreak exploits / security loopholes in the firmware. In case that is true, then it is highly possible that the hacker might share his newly found iOS 9.3 jailbreak exploits with the Pangu team.
iOS 9.3 Jailbreak Release Date
Hackers like Luca often work on the back-end and leave it on other teams to produce a publicly usable jailbreak tool. So there is a high possibility that we might see a Pangu 9.3 jailbreak right after Apple seeds iOS 9.3 to the public, which might happen at the end of January or by mid-February. It is also possible that we might receive a surprise from the TaiG team. Anyone excited?
