It was only a couple of days ago when we had published an article in the MobiPicks section about the future of smartphones, where we have discussed the amazing technologies that are going to enter the smartphone market soon. However, we had little to no idea at all that Xiaomi would be one of the few companies to be a large player in terms of innovative smartphone technology. Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship, the Xiaomi Mi 5, has been in the news since a lot of months. We earlier expected it to be another flagship killer with competitive top-of-the-line specs, but it looks like there is much more to the smartphone.
According to Weibo post by well-known tipster @leaksfly, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will pack the Ultrasonic Fingerprint Recognition Technology from Qualcomm. In case this rumor is anything to go by, then Xiaomi will become the first device to feature this amazing technology. We have already heard that Xiaomi might carry Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship chip Snapdragon 820, and in case you don’t know, this chip supports the earlier-mentioned fingerprint recognition tech. So an educated guess says that the Mi 5 will indeed feature what Qualcomm has dubbed as the Snapdragon Sense 3D Fingerprint technology.
This new technology will be much better, faster, and more secure than the existing fingerprint recognition technologies. Qualcomm’s 3D fingerprint technology works by creating a small minute map of your fingerprint details, which actually makes copying your fingerprint even harder. Such a technology that is more secure than the present one will definitely be most welcome.
You might have noticed that the present smartphones with fingerprint recognition technology feature a capacitive fingerprint sensor or button. However, the 3D fingerprint tech has no such requirements and can be integrated into glass, metal, or plastic too. Wouldn’t it look so cool to unlock your device just by placing your finger on the display, just like they show in the sci-fi movies? Well, the future is here people, thanks to Xiaomi.
Apart from the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will also boast of other top-of-the-line features like 16MP camera, 4GB of RAM, Android 5.1.1, and so much more. This shows that Xiaomi is evolving as a global company and isn’t afraid to experiment with technologies and introduce new concepts to the smartphone market. The Mi 5 is rumored to get a December 2015 release. Xiaomi has always kept the price tag of its phones in the affordable range, so we expect it to price the Mi 5 similarly. And with so many amazing features in it, the phone will be a massive hit!
