Cyanogen OS 12.1 update which is based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is now finally being pushed to the OnePlus One users through OTA. This update will be distributed to users over a scattered period. According to the sources only 2% lucky users have got the intimation till now for the update, while rest will get an update through OTA in days to come.
The Cyanogen update is of 654MB and is compatible with all the versions which are installed on OnePlus One user’s devices. The build of the software will change the build version to YOG4PAS1N0. The notification for the Cyanogen OS 12.1 confirms that the patch will bring relief to the users who have been haunted by the Stagefright bug. To make it simpler, stagefright is a vulnerability in your device through which an attacker can take control of your device by sending a media file through MMS service.
There is another version of update available for the users who have an Android 5.0 Lollipop running on their OnePlus One. This upgrade is also available through OTA and is 304MB which makes it 40% slimmer than the update for Android 5.1.1.
Already the Stagefright bug fix has been provided as an upgrade by many manufacturers such as Samsung. According to the upgrade notification,
“This update provides critical security fixes for your device to address recently publicized vulnerabilities on Android devices. As this is a sizable update, please allocate 20 minutes for the installation process and ensure your device is fully charged before proceeding with the install.”
It is interesting to note that the recent update will allow doing activation of home button in chrome. On top of it, we can also see the default search engine is set to Bing instead of google which we presume to be the outcome of an association between Cyanogen and Microsoft.
Those who got an OTA update may sit and relax after installing the update, and those who haven’t received don’t worry; you will be receiving an update soon.
