MediaTek has possibly gained huge popularity at the international stage by creating cheap chipsets for smartphones and tablets, but from every indications, it appears the Taiwan-based chip manufacturer aims at competing in the more fiercely chip markets as well.

The first move that MediaTek made toward hitting the competitive smartphone market was to create the Helio X10, a chipset with enough processing capacity to be fitted in multiple range phones such as HTC One M9+ or the Meizu MX5. Last May, MediaTek launched the upper mid-range Helio X20, the first mobile SoC with a deca-core CPU in the world. Even though it is possible that the first set of devices to incorporate the Helio X20 may not be available in the market until the first quarter of 2016. Mediatek is said to be working on a more advanced chipset, the Helio X30.

The Chinese media recently reported that the new Helio X30 will be made with better features on its board as compared to the Helio X20 SoC.

The Helio X20 chipset comes with a tri-cluster CPU with four ARM Cortex-A53 cores and a frequency of 1.4Ghz, four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2GHz, and a pair of scorching hot ARM Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 2.5Ghz. If this is confirmed to be true, the MediaTek Helio X30 will integrate a stronger deca-core CPU, a quad-cluster design with two ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1GHz, two Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5Ghz, two Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 2GHz and four of those powerful ARM Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 2.5GHz.

Looking into the GPU, the Helio X30 is said to consist of the ARM’s Mali-T880 GPU, ARM’s fastest mobile GPU architecture for now, and a better improvement over the Mali-T800 GPU used by MediaTek on the Helio X20. A new rumor claimed the Helio X30 supports 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, a feature that is not found in the Helio X20.

If these reports are true, a better improvement in terms of total processing power is expected of the Helio X30 as compared to the Helio X20.

The official release date for the Helio X30 is not stated in the report, , however, one would say that the first Helio X30-powered handsets could be launched during the first quarter of 2016. We will keep bringing you any updates on this report as soon as we get them.
