Halloween is coming and celebrations have begun. We bet you have already started prepping up for the big Halloween party on the night of the 31st this month. However, there are people who prefer staying indoors and enjoying some spooky movies rather than going out and spooking others with crazy costumes that are funnier than scarier.
For all those horror movie lovers, we have compiled a list of five creepy horror movies that you can watch to have a creepy Halloween evening. Here you go-
1. The Conjuring (2013)
Yes, I know, most of you would say it’s too obvious. But let’s accept it. Apart from the great storyline and direction, ‘The Conjuring’ became such a massive hit due to the really spooky jump scares it offered. It is also the film that helped in boosting Director James Wan’s popularity to a level he himself could have never imagined. Definitely a re-watch if you haven’t seen it in a while. ‘The Conjuring 2’ is an equally good horror film, though some will argue that it lacked the spookiness of the first movie.
2. Insidious (2010) and Insidious: Chapter 2 (2010)
Okay, I am a huge James Wan fan, but there’s a strong reason to include this film on the list. Insidious became a huge hit undoubtedly due to its different concept. Insidious 2 isn’t a compulsory watch, but the way Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 have been woven is intriguing and brings some really good jump scares. And yes, there are lots of jumpy moments for horror-bugs.
The latest Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015) isn’t as good as the first two films, but it is still worth watching if you’re curious to know what happens in an Insidious prequel. (Though the third film hasn’t been directed by James Wan, who has produced it.)
3. REC (2007)
This film is one of the best found-footage films you can ever watch. It’s basically a zombie horror film that shows what happened in a house when a TV reporter and cameraman follow emergency workers into a dark house. What follows next is a series of realistic-looking scenes and lots of jump scares.
Some other suggested found-footage films are The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity.
4. Hush (2016)
This one is a pretty new horror-thriller movie that revolves around the events of one night, just like most other horror-thrillers. The protagonist in this movie, a young female author, lives alone in a large house somewhere in the far-away woods. She is attacked by an intruder, a serial killer, that night. She must escape him, but she has a disability- she’s deaf! The whole scenario creates an eerie and a heart-pumping game of cat-and-mouse. A one-time watch, but definitely a watch!
If you like Hush and want to see a movie where more people are being killed and scenes are gorier and more pumping, try “You’re Next” (2011).
5. Shutter (2004)
This film has been remade quite a few times and in different languages, but it’s best to watch the original Thai version of the movie. The story follows the life of a photographer and his girlfriend after they start seeing mysterious figures in developed pictures. If you haven’t watched the English version of the film (or any version other than Thai), we highly recommend you watch the original Shutter movie and get some seriously spooky moments.
If you like watching Asian horror movies, you should definitely try Alone (2007). Watch the original Thai one, though.
