#4: Torment: Tides of Numenera
Torment: Tides of Numenera is the sequel to what has to be the best-written video game there has ever been, Planescape: Torment. After a successful Kickstarter back in 2013 (a Kickstarter that broke records as the most funded video game Kickstarter of its time), the game has been furiously in development for close to 3 years now.
The game will be set in the role-playing universe of Numenera and be based on the Unity engine to render a 2.5D style (much like its fellow Kickstarter success Pillars of Eternity). As with Planescape: Torment before it, the game will feature an ornate literary style and will focus on “The Last Castoff”, formerly a human host for an ancient man. Much like its predecessor, this game will star an amnesiac protagonist as they attempt to find out what has happened to them, attract followers and suffer the consequences of their choices.
After missing its original release date of 2014, and then 2015, Torment: Tides of Numenera looks to be solidly locked for a 2016 release. We expect the game to come out early, perhaps as early as Q2 2016. The game is developed by inXile Entertainment, developers of Wasteland 2, and will be written by Colin McComb, who also wrote the original Torment.
